ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

The IEEE Communications Society will mark the 50th Anniversary of its annual IEEE Global Telecommunications Conference (IEEE GLOBECOM 2007) in Washington, DC from 26 to 30 November.  This information-rich conference will span the entire range of communications technologies, offering in-depth information on the latest developments in voice, data, image, and multimedia.

Themed “Innovate, Educate, Accelerate,” IEEE GLOBECOM 2007 will include a general symposium and nine technical symposia that will offer more than 1,000 technical presentations, as well as diverse tutorials and workshops.  Topics for the technical symposia include ad-hoc and sensor networking, communication theory, Internet protocols, optical networks, multimedia communications, signal processing, and wireless communications.

The 50th Anniversary Celebration, hosted by Dr. Irwin Jacobs (Co-Founder & Chairman, QUALCOMM, Inc.), will feature Keynote Dr. Jeong Kim (President, Bell Labs at Alcatel-Lucent); IEEE GLOBECOM Panel Session with Roberto de Marca (PUC-Rio), Ann Miller (University of Missouri - Rolla), and Tom Rowbotham (Vesbridge Partners); plus a Commemorative Lecture by Dr. Leonard Kleinrock (UCLA).

IEEE GLOBECOM 2007 will host the industry trade show, IEEE Communications Expo, and major events associated with the show. These events will include ACCESS '07 Executive Business Forum, an executive-level meeting on telecommunications, and the Design & Developers Forum. Expo Plenary Speakers include Matt Bross, CTO at BT Group; Ernie J. Carey, Senior Vice President at Network Services, AT&T Southwest, AT&T Operations, Inc.; Scott McGregor, CEO at Broadcom; Mark A. Wegleitner, Senior Vice President, Technology & CTO at Verizon Communications; and Prof. Wu Hequan, Vice President at Chinese Academy of Engineering.

The 2nd Annual IEEE Communications Expo will showcase companies that manufacture and distribute telecommunications products and services.  In addition to the industry exhibits, EXPO will feature the ACCESS ’07 Executive Business Forum, which will be composed of 12 sessions and will address many of today’s most pressing communications business, management, and market issues.

In addition, the IEEE Communications Expo Design & Designers Forum will offer 12 sessions that address cutting-edge areas, such as network modeling and simulation tools, reliability and availability in telecommunication systems, mobility management; and quantum key security for networks.

IEEE EntNet 2007, also co-located with IEEE GLOBECOM, will focus on the development and evolution of enterprise-level networking technologies.  It will offer a broad selection of industry oriented panels and tutorials.

Additional events include GOLD and the Maniac Challenge.  The Gold sessions is aimed at giving graduate students and young professionals an opportunity to mix with leaders in the telecommunications field, and peers who have been successful entrepreneurs.  The Mobile Ad-hoc Networking Interoperability And Cooperation (MANIAC) Challenge is a multi-institution competition that explores the tension between cooperation and selfish behavior in wireless self-organizing networks.

With all that IEEE GLOBECOM has to offer, your participation is to be a truly memorable learning experience that will provide technical as well as practical knowledge sure to enhance your professional development.
