The SARACEN (Socially Aware, collaboRative, scAlable Coding mEdia distribution) research initiative will demonstrate the results of their research on P2P based media delivery of socially aware content. The SARACEN demo will focus on two areas:

First, the delivery and reproduction of multimedia content over a P2P infrastructure in which subscribers can participate in the media distribution chain as peer nodes by contributing through their user premises equipment. A prototype of a customer premises device (the SARACEN PROXY) that will enable this distribution, which also features DLNA capabilities for display of the streams in any compatible device, will be demonstrated. The device will be able to support P2P stream distribution of adaptive, 3D content in real time.

Second, using the SARACEN platform for user generated content distribution featuring social networking will also be demonstrated, through a live contest among attendees. All participants of the conference will be able to record, tag, comment and publish their video of a topic related to the conference into the SARACEN platform, while a contest with prizes for the winners will be announced and run in parallel to the second demo.
SARACEN is an EU research initiative funded partially by the Information Society and Media Directorate General of the European Commission under the Seventh Framework program.
