Biographies


Tino Mantella
President, Technology Association of Georgia

Tino Mantella joined the Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) in September 2004 as the organization's new President. Prior to joining TAG, Mr. Mantella had amassed over 20 years of related experience leading two of the nation’s more prestigious volunteer-driven organizations - National Arthritis Foundation and YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago. As President and CEO of two multifaceted and complex charities, he spearheaded agendas that led to the development of innovative new services, resulting in the facilitation of significant membership growth. In addition, his track record reflects impressive results in fund raising, advocacy, and economic development. Since coming to TAG, Mr. Mantella has worked with a team of dedicated volunteers and staff to: build a prestigious board made up of 60 technology stakeholders; grow membership by more than 600%; and add a series of program and services that support TAG's vision of educating, informing and uniting the technology community. Mr. Mantella has served on Northwestern Universities' Kellogg Board; and has been a long-standing member of Young Presidents Organization (YPO); and, among others, currently serves on the Board of Directors of Venture Atlanta.





Chris Walters
Chief Operating Officer, The Weather Company

Chris Walters serves as chief operating officer (COO) for The Weather Company (TWC). Walters joined TWC from Bloomberg L.P. where he was the COO of the Bloomberg Industry Verticals Group. In this role, Walters oversees TWC's technology, finance, legal, human resources, research and program management teams, and reports to TWC Chairman and CEO David Kenny.

A strategist and visionary who understands the media and digital industries and has a track record in operating innovative media and technology businesses, he builds on TWC's category leadership, strengthens its technology, and expands into new markets.

As COO of the Bloomberg Industry Vertical Group, Walters was responsible for operations, strategy, business development and expansion of the premium web-based subscription businesses. He launched Bloomberg Government in 2011, which quickly became a disruptive force in the market. In addition he led the acquisition of BNA, a major provider of legal information. Walters joined Bloomberg in 2008 as head of news and multimedia strategy, focusing on the future growth and strategic direction for the company's collection of media properties across TV, online, mobile and syndication. In that role he worked on the evaluation and completion of numerous partnerships, including UTV in India, and acquisition opportunities such as Business Week.
Previously, Walters was a partner at McKinsey & Company in NY, advising media, entertainment and investment companies, including TWC's principal investors. He started his career in marketing strategy for Hallmark Cards.

Walters is based at TWC's headquarters in Atlanta. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Vermont and an MBA from the University of Chicago.





Cameron Coursey
VP, Product Development for AT&T’s Emerging Devices Organization


Cameron Coursey is VP of Product Development for AT&T’s Emerging Devices Organization, charged with driving the system solutions and launch for emerging devices on AT&T’s network.
From April 2009 to June 2012, Coursey was AVP of Product Realization within the Emerging Devices Organization, where he led device and network realization.


From December 2004 to April 2009, Coursey was Executive Director of Subscriber Product Engineering within the Chief Technology Officer's organization of AT&T and Cingular Wireless. In that capacity, he oversaw the technical requirements development, certification, and post-launch technical support for wireless devices and smart cards used on AT&T's domestic wireless network.

From July 2003 to December 2004, Coursey was Executive Director of Network Initiatives for Cingular, charged with overseeing technology aspects of Cingular's merger with AT&T Wireless Services and with responsibility for Cingular's labs and infrastructure planning.

From July 2000 to July 2003, Coursey was Director of Technology & Product Realization for Cingular, where he led the development and deployment of GSM/ANSI-136 Interoperability Team (GAIT) technology within Cingular's networks that facilitated Cingular's conversion from TDMA to GSM.

Coursey was instrumental in the industry efforts to specify GAIT from 1999 through 2001, chairing the joint GSM Association-Universal Wireless Communications Consortium team that developed the GAIT specifications. He was also vice chair of the GSM Global Roaming Forum of the GSM Association, and worked to globalize GAIT technology. During this time, Coursey was also granted multiple U.S. patents covering intelligent roaming for handsets and methods to implement private in-building systems that use wireless spectrum and technology.

In 1999, Coursey authored the textbook "Understanding Digital PCS: The TDMA Standard," which describes the technology behind U.S. TDMA (IS-136) from a handset, air interface, and network perspective. Coursey was a key contributor to the IS-136 standard from 1996 through 1999, and helped to introduce IS-136 into Cingular's networks during that time. He worked through the UWCC to develop the concepts of 136+, which led to embracing GSM as the next step beyond U.S. TDMA.

Coursey began his commercial wireless career at SBC Technology Resources, Inc., in 1991, where he worked on technology for sharing spectrum between PCS and fixed wireless, early wireless packet data field trials for Southwestern Bell Mobile Systems, and network planning for new wireless opportunities for SBC in Southeast Asia. Prior to joining SBC Technology Resource, he worked for McDonnell Douglas for three years on advanced communications systems for military aircraft.

Coursey received his Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla in 1988. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla in 1987, graduating Magna Cum Laud.
 





Louis K. Gump
President & CEO, LSN Mobile, Inc.
 
Louis Gump is President and Chief Executive Officer of LSN Mobile, and a recognized leader in mobile marketing, digital media and business development. He is responsible for the overall strategic direction of the company, as well as oversight of day-to-day operations, product realization and team development. He is also a member of the board of directors. 

Prior to joining LSN Mobile, Gump served as vice president of mobile for CNN (a Time Warner/Turner Broadcasting Company), where he was responsible for CNN’s global mobile business and led its growth as a recognized market leader within the digital media space. Responsibilities included driving revenue, developing its award-winning product portfolio and increasing its user base. Before joining CNN, Gump served as vice president of mobile for The Weather Channel, where he led teams that transformed mobile internally and established benchmarks for excellence around the industry. Previously, he also served as director of business development for ExpoExchange.
 
Deeply committed to the community, Gump currently serves as an active member of the Atlanta Mobility Task Force, which is dedicated to fostering the development of Atlanta as a global mobile center. Over the past decade, he has served on the board of directors of the Mobile Marketing Association, holding positions as global chairman and treasurer. Additionally, he has served as co-chair of the Online Publishers Association mobile committee and as a member of CTIA’s Wireless Internet Caucus Leadership Council.
 
Among the awards he has received is the 2011 Wireless Technology Forum’s Mobile Media Person of the Year, the 2011 MMA Lifetime Achievement Award and the 2009 “Top Ten mobiThinkers” award given by mobiThinking.com to recognize pioneers in mobile marketing. With his teams he has also received a Cannes Mobile Lion Award in 2012, as well as a Peabody Award for breaking news coverage and a Webby Award in 2010. 


Gump holds an MBA from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Duke University.





Lew Tucker
VP & CTO, Cloud Computing, Cisco Systems, Inc
 
Lew Tucker is Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of Cloud Computing at Cisco, where he is responsible for shaping the future cloud strategy and products. Tucker has more than 20 years of experience in the high-tech industry, ranging from distributed systemsand artificial intelligence to software development and systems architecture. Prior to Cisco, he was VP and CTO for Cloud Computing at SunMicrosystems and led the development of the Sun Cloud. Other achievements in his career include Salesforce.com’s AppExchange, the java.com developer community, and the massively parallel Connection Machine. He’s currently driving Cisco’s contribution to the OpenStack open source cloud project and is vice-chairman of the Foundation’s board of directors.

Tucker holds a B.A. from Cornell University, and a Ph.D. in computer science from the Polytechnic Institute of New York University.
