US ENTRY FOR NONIMMIGRANTS

New York, NY (13 November 2007) – President George Bush has extended his personal congratulations to the IEEE Global Communications Conference on its upcoming 50th anniversary celebration, citing the conference for its international achievement in the "development and advancement of global communications" as well as "promoting achievement and innovation in technology and engineering."

The personal note from President Bush to the IEEE Communications Society comes just weeks before the organization celebrates the 50th anniversary milestone at IEEE GLOBECOM 2007 to be held November 26 - 30 at the Hilton Washington Hotel in Washington, DC. The landmark event will be highlighted by more than 1,000 technical presentations exploring the latest developments in voice, data, image and multimedia communications.
          
Featured events include addresses from Ernie J. Carey, Senior Vice President at Network Services, AT&T Southwest AT&T Operations, Inc.; Dr. Jeong Kim, President of Bell Labs at Alcatel-Lucent; Scott McGregor, CEO at Broadcom; and Mark A. Wegleitner, Senior Vice President, Technology & Chief Technology Officer at Verizon Communications, among others. Held in conjunction with the conference will also be the 2nd Annual IEEE Communications Industry Forum and Expo, which includes ACCESS '07 Executive Business Forum, Design & Designers Forum, and the Communications Expo.

"For five decades, IEEE's Global Communications Conference has brought together engineers and professionals from around the globe to share ideas and new perspectives on a wide range of communications technologies", noted the President. "Your important work helps ensure a better world for generations to come," he observed.

The president's accolades for the conference have also been echoed by a half dozen other Washington-area officials including Mayor Adrian Fenty of the District of Columbia, Alexandria Virginia Mayor William Euille, Fairfax Virginia Mayor Robert Lederer, as well as officials from Arlington, Prince William and Montgomery counties. All of the officials are acknowledging the conference with public proclamations, declaring the week of November 26 "IEEE Global Communications Week."
          
Said Mayor Fenty, "This year, more than 1,500 IEEE members will attend this conference in celebration of ingenuity and technology and to recognize the great contributions that the profession brings to mankind."

"Communications engineers face the major technological challenges of our time, championing an information super highway that will speed the world to the twenty-first century," he further noted.

The IEEE Communications Society has more than 40,000 members and is the second largest of IEEE's 39 technical societies. Founded in 1952, it has become the major international forum for the exchange of ideas on communications and information networking.
